G369, 2,7mm vintage shape, vintage green French Galalith, modern grip bars

£12.66

G369 Vintage style

31,5mm length 20,75mm shoulders

Probably anything you can think of has already been thought of.
An inspiring shape with an intriguing grip formula from a 1936 Gibson catalogue, I respectfully dragged it into our modern times.
It is too good to leave in the past.
A bit of a tweak and the design should be good for another eighty years.

Raised grip rhombuses

The raised grip rhombuses are also inspired by several vintage picks from the 1930s. Then they were fairly crude affairs, it looks like they were pressed or hammered into the celluloid of the pick.

I don’t want to press or hammer my plectra.

So I experimented with raised islands on the cnc. Shape, size and position of the raised islands are all part of the equation. Too close together and your skin will interpret the rhombuses as a single surface, the grip is gone. You’ll only need about .3mm raise, a good distance between them, and preferably sharp edges to each rhombus.

Result? Sticks like glue. Probably better grip than the originals, but I can’t confirm that, since I’ve never laid hands on an original…

Because of their construction, these plectra are very much directional: you play with the tip, and you hold it by the rhombuses. That’s it.
You can’t flip these around for another radius, and this makes the bevel quite important. I beveled these to taper down in the space of about 6mm from the body thickness to a tip thickness of less than 1mm.

All in all a very interesting player.

Refund Policy

I realise that a plectrum is a very personal thing, and I designed most of my shapes to my liking, both in appearance and in performance. If, for whatever reason, you don't like your Meantone plectrum, you are welcome to send it back to me, in the same condition as it reached you. Upon receipt of the plectrum I will refund you.

But in all honesty, it's simply cheaper and easier to keep it in your collection, and who knows, you might change your mind. It happens.

Cancellation / Return / Exchange Policy

You can cancel your Meantone order and be refunded, provided I have not sent the order out yet.
